nurturing empathy in your family

Empathy is at the core of healthy families.

Empathy is one of the most crucial ingredients for relating well to ourselves, our partners, our children, and the communities our families are situated within.

We offer courses for you to understand empathy better and to build your ability to engage in more empathic relationships.

We have tailored workshops and training materials for you, depending on your situation and what you’d like to focus on.

We offer courses for couples, parents of children, parents of teenagers, and parents of children and teenagers with a mental illness.

building an empathic organisation

Empathic leaders and empathic teams contribute to successful workplaces.

Empathic leaders promote optimal performance. Empathy can enhance wise decision-making. Amongst team members, empathy can also positively impact job performance. It enhances problem-solving and creates a healthier workplace environment. This is a skill you can develop within yourself and in your organisation as a whole.

Interestingly, as human beings become more powerful in their social group, their empathy tends to decrease. This can then negatively affect their leadership approach as they can damage those around them. Effective leaders can engage in appropriate forms of workplace empathy and build teams that have the empathic skills necessary to thrive.

In our diverse contexts, we can’t understand empathy in only one way. The idea of “stepping into another person’s shoes” relies on an individualistic worldview and presumes that we can see into another’s inner emotions and thoughts. There are alternative relational approaches that open up other ways of empathising. It is immensely helpful to have a broader pallet of empathic strategies to choose from.

You will walk away from these courses not only with a deeper understanding of empathy and its relevance in the workplace but also with skills for how to engage in empathy practically.

growing empathic schools

Empathy is at the heart of healthy schools.

While the business of a school is teaching and learning, these are relational endeavours. We learn and teach best in environments of mutual care and respect. As a teacher, you can grow your empathy skills. You can learn to enhance your empathy towards yourself, colleagues and learners. You can also discover how to help your learners grow their empathy.

your ability to engage more empathically with others.

enriching therapeutic relationships

As therapists, we know that empathy is one of the

most pivotal components of the therapeutic

relationship.

While we agree that empathy is essential in therapy, the concept of empathy itself is not often critiqued within our professions. Trying to “place ourselves in the other person’s shoes” depends on an individualistic worldview and presumes that it is possible to see into the inner emotional world of another adequately. Relational worldviews open up different possibilities for conceptualising empathy. As we expand our understanding of the concept, multiple new avenues open up to us for effective empathic relating.

In these courses, you will learn how to expand your empathy and assist your clients in growing their empathy. You’ll also receive tools for your own selfassessment and as a way of tracking your clients’ empathic development.
